After finishing her studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in L’Aquila, Alessandra D’Andrea was immediately called by the Capuchin Friars in Assisi to design and make two very important works: the first one is the mosaic decoration of the apses of the Sanctuary of the Divine Love in Gualdo Tadino. It was a complex and very big work, which involved the base of the altar, the apses, the Tabernacle and two smaller panels at the sides of the apses, covered by mosaics. A work with a great emotional and visual impact, with bright colours and charming chromatic effects wanted by the artist, especially because the church is always slightly in the shadow. The main theme is the cross, which does not symbolize death, but a vision of the infinite, between the Alpha and the Omega. It covers the whole apses of the church. At its sides, the Tabernacle and the Lord’s Angel, and at the base of the altar a representation which recalls nature through the image of the deer panting for water.
